+Schon vor dem Erwerb der Gebäude (des ehemaligen Klosters) auf dem Michaelsberg im Jahre 1886 war die "Königl. preuß. Strafanstalt zu Siegburg" in gepachteten Gebäudeteilen der Abtei - die sodann zwischen 1893 und 1896 um einen großen Zellentrakt erweitert wurde - untergebracht. Zur Entlastung der bald gleichwohl überbelegten Anstalt (sowie der ebenfalls überbelegten Anstalt in Köln) ließ der Leiter des preußischen Gefängniswesens, Geheimrat Carl Krohne, 1896 in Siegburg-Brückberg, auf dem heutigen Gelände der Anstalt, ein neues Gebäude errichten. Was dort während des Kaiserreichs, der Weimarer Republik und während des Dritten Reiches sowie der Besatzungszeit geschah, stellt die Homepage der Anstalt nicht dar. Auch die im folgenden berichteten Ereignisse werden von der Selbstdarstellung der Institution - die unter den Fittichen des Justizministeriums des Landes NRW erfolgt - nicht behandelt.<br>
+Nachdem im April 2008 die letzten erwachsenen Strafgefangenen (vor allem in die JVA Geldern) verlegt worden waren, ist Siegburg wieder ausschließlich für den Jugendstrafvollzug da. Die Belegungsfähigkeit wurde auf 515 Haftplätze für den geschlossenen Jugendvollzug plus 29 Plätze in einer sozialtherapeutischen Abteilung reduziert (Forum Strafvollzug 57.Heft 3, Mai 2008: 99 f.).
+==Ereignisse==
+*Am 11.11.2006: Drei Häftlinge quälen, vergewaltigen und töten einen 20 Jahre alten Mithäftling. Er musste sein Erbrochenes essen, wurde mit einem Handfeger vergewaltigt und wurde sechsmal zu dem Versuch gezwungen, sich an der Zellentür aufzuhängen. Danach entschlossen sich die drei Häftlinge, ihn "wegzuhängen". Sie werden im Oktober 2007 zu langen Haftstrafen verurteilt.
+*Am 27. und 30. 04. 2008 kam es zu zwei Suiziden von einem 19-Jährigen und einem 20-Jährigen. Letzterer hatte einen Abschiedsbrief hinterlassen, in dem er laut Justizministerin Roswitha Müller-Piepenkötter (CDU) erklärt haben sollte, dass er seit seinem zwölften Lebensjahr Probleme mit seinem Leben gehabt habe und seine Handlung sich auch in jeder anderen Anstalt hätte zutragen können: "Es musste passieren, jetzt ist es soweit."
