Es wird gelegentlich behauptet, das Phänomen der medialen Vorverurteilung nehme in der Gegenwart deutlich zu - nicht zuletzt aufgrund der von professionellen Gatekeepern weitgehend befreiten sozialen Medien.
(Allerdings sind nach deutschem Recht die Betreiber von Online-Bogs für Leserzuschriften verantwortlich. Sie sind deshalb gut beraten, sich etwa durch Urlaubsankündigungen für wenige Tage abzusichern oder aber die Kommentarfunktion einzuchränken, bzw. abzuschalten. Das gilt evtl. auch für große Medien wie z.B. FAZ-online).

- Die Medien übernehmen immer mehr die Rolle eines modernen Prangers. Der Grundsatz, dass jeder zunächst als unschuldig zu gelten hat, scheint in der Berichterstattung in den Hintergrund zu rücken - das zeigen die Fälle Nadja Benaissa, Jörg Kachelmann und Dominique Strauss-Kahn.

But the opposite is the case: they’re damaging justice, and weakening the protections that ought to be enjoyed by all of us, women and men.
