Barry McGuire

Der Folkrock-Singer Barry McGuire (* 15.10.1935 in Oklahoma City, USA) wurde (nach seiner Entlassung aus der Navy wegen Minderjährigkeit) durch den Song Eve of Destruction (1965) bekannt. Die Schallplatte wurde von vielen Rundfunksendern boykottiert. Sie wurde mehr als fünf Millionen mal verkauft.

"Eve of Destruction" was recorded in one take on a Thursday morning (from words scrawled on a crumpled piece of paper) and then he got a call from the record company at 7:00 the next Monday morning, telling him to turn on the radio—his song was playing. The recording includes an "ahhh" where McGuire could not read the words.

1971 verlegte McGuire sich auf die Produktion christlicher Popmusik, zog Mitte der 1980er Jahre nach Neuseeland und Mitte der 1990er Jahre nach Kalifornien und veröffentlichte 2009 "Eve 2012" mit einem umweltpolitisch umorientierten Text seines großen Hits.

2015 traten McGuire und der Komponist von "Eve of Destruction" anlässlich des 50. Jahrestages des Hit-Songs gemeinsam auf.
