Verbreitung

In 2008, almost 15 percent of Americans had tried cocaine, with 6 percent having tried it by their senior year of high school.

Gefährlichkeit

Auf David Nutts Liste der gefährlichen Drogen rangiert Kokain hinter Heroin auf Platz 2. Manchmal erscheint Kokain aber auch hinter Alkohol.

Negative Folgen

In 2011, two Swiss psychologists, Dr. Francois Crespo and Dr. Sylvie Petitjean, published two years of trials and research which demonstrates that gambling along with psychotherapy is the best method to break the cocaine addiction cycle. According to Dr. Crespo - "After cocaine is used, it activates the reward center inside the brain. The brain released euphoric hormones and neurotransmitters such as dopamine, oxytocin and adrenaline which act as a mood enhancer. The same occurs with gambling: the brain perceives a reward from winning or the potential of a reward. The reward causes intense moments of happiness, which compensate for the desire to use cocaine".

Zitate

The ‘crew’ all came from the south side of Chicago and called themselves the Titanic Stones. Duck and his crew operated a dozen crack and heroin houses from the west side to the east side of Rockford. They sold a pound of heroin and almost the same amount of crack every week, making approximately $5,000 a day. They fought gun battles with rival drug gangs in the open on quiet residential streets. They terrorized the neighbourhoods they inhabited and intimidated witnesses. The local Rockford Sheriffs department knew the Titanic Stones were responsible for the mayhem but were unable to catch them....
